Junichi Hashimoto: M.Arch, Architect, AAA, MRAIC

Junichi Hashimoto first visited Canada as an exchange architect in1966. He studied extensively in both Japan and Canada and has enjoyed working with internationally known architects. Eventually he became a permanent resident in Canada and has practiced architecture here for 30 years.

He admires how engaged the people are at Hartwig Architecture. "They have great ability and team spirit," he says.

Junichi attributes some of his personal success to his early working experiences. "I worked at good firms until I found myself and could walk my own design path."

Challenging exciting projects, good clients, momentum, potential, and a deep commitment to design excellence are the things he appreciates most about working with Hartwig Architecture. He also enjoys the diversity of clients and type of projects.

Junichi's other interests include painting (with watercolours), fly fishing, and backpacking. He finds the Canadian Rocky Mountains exceptionally beautiful and inspiring.

His inspiration comes from his inner self. But he says it is also important to remain curious, broadminded, and up to date with new science and technology and in touch with new thinking. To Junichi, building with SOUL means serving from the heart with one hundred percent passion.

Junichi has received many design awards, both in Japan and in Canada. To name just a few the City of Winnipeg Urban Design International Competition Award, Japanese Ministry of Construction Award, Governor Generals Award for Robson Square with Arthur Erickson Architects Vancouver, Design Award University of Alberta, Edmonton, and Stelco Design Award, Calgary.

His favourite projects are those that advance research and support sustainability. An example is Station Point Greens, a development with Canada's first NetZero community development.
