Kathy Gibson: Interior Designer, D.I.D.

A class in high school that taught her about space planning and design sparked Kathy’s desire to become an interior designer.

A member of the Hartwig Architecture team since 2008, Kathy thrives on the creative and diverse nature of her work. She draws her inspiration from travel, design shows, Websites, publications and buildings.

While she enjoys the freedom and autonomy her work provides, she takes her responsibilities seriously. “Staying on budget while creating interiors that are aesthetically pleasing is a challenge I look forward to every day. It feels great to have earned the
confidence of this company.”

She believes that the firm is successful for several reasons. It’s small enough for clients to have face-to-face contact with their project team, yet Hartwig also has the resources and flexibility for bigger jobs. Clients mention that they really appreciate having access to both architecture and interior design within the same company. Most important is the contribution of talented team members who pitch in to help each other when deadlines are looming.

Displaying integrity and honesty in the design and interactions with clients is what ‘building with SOUL’ means to Kathy. She attributes her professional success to being honest, listening carefully, treating people as she would want to be treated, and putting herself in the client’s position.

The renovation project at the Robin Hood Youth & Community Center engaged Kathy’s heart in a meaningful way because of the special needs children it was designed to serve. “Working on an old building is very challenging,” she says.

For summer fun, Kathy, her husband Rob and their four children, camp, boat and swim. Whether for business or for pleasure, she also loves to travel.
