Over the past 30 years, Terry Hartwig and Hartwig Architecture Inc. have been the design architects or prime consultants for more than 1000 projects. Terry says, “It is rewarding to head up this firm because I have the opportunity to do the best work possible, and the freedom to do it. We all love what we do, we have a passion for design excellence, and our work exemplifies that every day.”
Terry has been honored with many design awards—his Commonwealth Stadium design being one of the first. When asked about his favorite or most exciting project, Terry says ‘I love them all, but actually, the most exciting project is always the next one!’
As a youngster, Terry loved drawing and building things. While still in grade school, he read “The Living City” by Frank Lloyd Wright, and from that time on he knew he wanted to be an architect.
Terry’s other interests include furniture design, painting, building, pottery, home renovations, and reading.
In a recent interview, Terry reflected about a few of the reasons for the success of Hartwig Architecture:
On client relationships… “We recognize that good architecture fully meets the needs of the client. Everyone here believes in going the extra mile. I believe that’s why we have so much repeat business and why our clients give us so many referrals.”
On the Hartwig team… “I am so proud of our team. They are truly exceptional people—talented, committed, enthusiastic, hard working, and fun. Without their passion and ability we could not take on all these great projects.”
On the working environment…“I care about providing a great place to work—a place where our people have the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop to their full potential. I think it’s important that our corporate culture encourages our people to unleash the full measure of their creative power.”

"Every day we are building with SOUL, putting all of ourselves into what we are doing with integrity, creativity, and passion."
Sasha’s path to becoming an architect technologist began growing up in Europe. Her love for beautiful old buildings, full of history and soul, grew into an interest in design and then to passion for architecture. Shortly after graduating, Sasha began her career at a small firm, specializing in custom homes. She says that she “thrived on the challenge of problem solving” and enjoyed the fast paced work. When she’s not busy working, Sasha enjoys being outside - camping, hiking, snowboarding and everything in between.
At Hartwig, she has shifted focus to commercial and interior design projects, always keeping her European roots at the heart of her work and finding inspiration in everything and everyone around her. Sasha loves working at Hartwig, “where there is never a dull moment or a day where experience, personality and laughter goes a long way.” She finds it a pleasure to work alongside “such smart and talented people where without heart and soul, there’s no office at all.”
“Sasha explains that building with SOUL means dedicating yourself to everything you do, especially the client, the project and the relationship. She is excited to continue working with Hartwig and for what the future holds.
When you visit Hartwig Architecture, June is the first person you see. You can count on her to connect you with the right person and make your visit pleasant and comfortable. Clearly, June enjoys her work and loves helping people.
In fact, June describes herself as a people person. She also has a proven aptitude for the organizational, creative, and clerical parts of her role.
There are 3 key factors that make June’s position enjoyable for her. She enjoys the different personalities of the team and customers. The atmosphere is relaxed amid the busyness. And there is great respect for each other among the team members. “They all work hard—they are conscientious.”
June attributes her success to her common sense, logical approach.
“I like to keep things moving ahead smoothly, with no drama.”
In June’s view, the repeat business and wonderful clients are signs that the firm’s success will be on going.
June draws her inspiration from the simple things in life. When not at work she loves spending time with her grandchildren and other family members, working on their farm, and reading.
“Building with SOUL means that everyone who works on the project puts their heart into it."
